¿La peor película de la década para los críticos? Avengers: Endgame

What is the worst movie of the decade? Each will have its answer, but there is unanimity in the film critics: the worst of all is, neither more nor less than Avengers: Endgame. The decision could not be more controversial, because the Disney and Marvel movie is the highest grossing in history. In other words, millions of people who have seen it over and over have swallowed a mess (at least, from the perspective of critics).

Undoubtedly, this boutade says more about critics than Avengers: Endgame. For the past decade, the cinematic universe of Marvel and Disney has reigned at the box office, and not just that. According to directors Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, the essence of cinema has also changed. Is the cinema 'The Avengers'? Shakespeare's classic tales of power, family, and corruption were formed in Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War, and Thor, but are they movies?

Truthfully, it doesn't matter. MCU movies (as the Marvel universe is known) are a collection of 23 pieces of cinematic tales and at the same time a kind of decade of theme park rides. Few come close to the cultural impact the MCU has left. With 23 billion in global box office sales, dozens of products, attractions and a universal phrase understood worldwide: "I love you, 3000", the MCU is practically a religion. While it technically started in 2008, the actual moment the MCU came in shot in 2012 with 'Avengers,' directed by Joss Whedon.

The MCU began in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Iron Man', which competed with brave, adult-oriented superhero movies like 'The Spirit' or 'The Dark Knight' by Christopher Nolan. Thanks to the charisma of Downey Jr., the film worked, with a box office of 600 million dollars, a spectacular figure for a character who was not as well known as others in the universe of comics.

Under Kevin Feige, who became the head of production at Marvel Studios in 2007, Iron Man created more than just an ordinary sequel: Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in a post-credit sequence, talking about something called "the Avengers Initiative " The initiative reappeared in 'The Incredible Hulk', released just a few months after Iron Man, in which Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark could be seen meeting with General Ross, Bruce Banner's greatest enemy, to talk about the program.
